Dr Charles Jenkinson
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
Husband to Clare, and father to Cora and Georgia, Charles Jenkinson is a Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Trainee based in Perth, Western Australia. As a family, they love travelling to the Margaret River wine regions, swimming in the pool, and cheering on the Perth Wildcats. He has also deeply ingrained his love for Star Wars into Cora, whose love for droids rivals her fondness for unicorns.
He is the current Trainee Representative to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Australia and New Zealand Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery representative and Communications Officer of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trainees Association, and Surgical Representative to the AMA Council of Doctors in Training. Charles is an Adjunct Lecturer within the Murdoch University School of Veterinary and Life Sciences, has lectured cardiac anatomy and examined medical students for the University of Western Australia, and undertaken research into organ preservation with the Heart and Lung Research Institute of Western Australia.
His current research interests include cardiac transplantation, myocardial protection, and computer modelling of haemodynamics in aortic aneurysmal disease. He has a great interest in medical education, social media, and advocacy.
Charles attends this year’s Medical Parents of Australia and New Zealand conference with Cora, and is proud to have co-authored an invited paper with Clare.
